PUMM: A workshop made by young women for young women

At Chicas en Tecnología, we believe that real change happens when young women lead. That is why we created Prototyping a Better World (PUMM), an experience designed for the girls in our community to be able to take a step forward in their journey, thus becoming creators of purposeful knowledge, networks, and solutions.

For three months, a group of young women from the CET Community designed, planned, and taught a workshop on technology and social impact for other girls. It was a training, practice, and collaboration process — they chose the topics, defined the dynamics, coordinated each instance, and supported other girls to imagine technological solutions to real problems.

Many of them experienced for the first time the opportunity to lead a team, make decisions, be in charge of a proposal, and see their ideas materialize. Together, they were encouraged to solve challenges and build a meaningful space for others. They discovered that they had a lot to say and that their voices could be an inspiration.

We are excited to see how they grow when they have the space to do so, because everything changes when they are confident in their voice and their abilities, and that is what we want to continue promoting — a community where young women feel they are the protagonists of the present and the creators of the future.
