What is Chicas en Tecnología’s First Series “¡Acción 2!” About?

Chicas en Tecnología (CET) launched “¡Acción 2!” (Action 2!), an educational audiovisual content created in alliance with the Escuela Plus program and the Ponchosauer production. It is made up of nine episodes whose script deals with the contents of the organization’s training proposals and that, through key questions on the use and purpose of technology, seeks to introduce Latin American adolescents and young women into this world so that they see it as a possibility for their academic and professional future.

The series is starred by Consuelo López, who shares, in an entertaining way, the keys to developing an application and reflects on the technology gender gap. It has a workshop format, where “Consu” offers tools for adolescents to create technology with a social impact by approaching topics such as problem identification, data use, prototype assembly, and development of technological solutions.

Moreover, this audiovisual content features 10 girls from the CET Community. Macarena, Valentina V., Florencia, Lucía, María, Ashley, Lucila, Valentina H., Marian, and Milagros are young graduates from different programs of the comprehensive training journey of Chicas en Tecnología, thanks to which they took their first steps into technology. Their journeys and experiences are now a big inspiration for other adolescents in the region to consider subjects from the technological field as an option for their academic and professional future.

The series is available for free on the website and the YouTube channel of Escuela Plus and also on DirecTV’s Channels 804 and 1804 HD. This makes it possible to reach both rural schools and rural towns that have satellite television but no Internet connection, thus expanding its impact and reach.

The contents discussed throughout the nine episodes are part of the free programs that Chicas en Tecnología makes available to young women from 13 to 23 years of age across Latin America. Furthermore, the organization works along with the educational field by putting together resources and materials and training teachers to awaken vocations and increase the opportunities of the youth in the areas of science and technology.

Paula Coto, CET’s Executive Director, pointed out: “At Chicas en Tecnología, we strongly believe that every young woman has the potential to be change creator through technology. ¡Acción 2! not only offers practical tools to develop applications with a social impact but also inspires girls to overcome the challenges and gender stereotypes in the technological field. We are excited to see how this series contributes to strengthening more young women across Latin America by giving them the necessary knowledge and confidence to awaken their vocation and leadership in the technological sector.”

The series is already available along with the teaching material to be used by the teachers of the entire region.
