{"id":15456,"date":"2024-05-10T13:18:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T16:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chicasentecnologia.org\/?p=15456"},"modified":"2025-09-30T19:34:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T22:34:32","slug":"what-are-the-main-factors-influencing-teenage-girls-interest-and-participation-in-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chicasentecnologia.org\/en\/2024\/05\/10\/what-are-the-main-factors-influencing-teenage-girls-interest-and-participation-in-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the main factors influencing teenage girls' interest and participation in technology?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Girls in Technology (CET)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> partnered with the Gino Germani Research Institute to conduct a study on the gender digital divide among adolescents in C\u00f3rdoba and Buenos Aires, Argentina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The research aims to identify and describe the processes of gender inequality from childhood to youth, as well as to characterize such trajectories in young women with high and low interest in the area, in relation to an academic and\/or labor future in the STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u201cGender digital divide in adolescent girls in C\u00f3rdoba and Buenos Aires\u201d.\u201d<\/i><\/b><i><sup>1<\/sup><\/i>\u00a0<b><i><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is based on a variety of research methods, including interviews with adolescent girls in order to reconstruct the trajectories of technology appropriation in light of stereotypes and social representations in relation to gender and technology.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, the classification by social class of the interviewees was included in order to take into account the intersectionality of the class and gender variables in the digital inequality processes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The research, carried out by Milagros Gimenez and Florencia Deleo, on behalf of CET, analyzes the digital inclusion of people who identify with the female gender based on the five \u201cC's\u201d recognized by Bradbrook and Fisher (2005) as central factors in this process: connectivity, capacity, content, trust and continuity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some turning points in people's trajectories with respect to technology were identified, such as the acquisition of the first devices, the influence of role models, the distribution of netbooks in schools, and the impacts derived from the pandemic.
