International recognition for innovative and regional solutions created in pandemics: Beiersdorf award to Melina Masnatta

The Executive Director and Co-Founder of Chicas en Tecnología is recognized as part of Ashoka's network of social entrepreneurs.

The international company Beiersdorf awarded the vision, leadership and strategy for sustainable innovation The Beiersdorf project was launched by Melina Masnatta through Chicas en Tecnología to enable adolescent women in the region to access quality training opportunities, tools and educational resources in a year marked by COVID-19 prevention and isolation measures. Beiersdorf's global recognition, granted through Ashoka's “Changemakers United” initiative, is the result of an exhaustive selection process in which the following participated 80 social entrepreneurs at the global level, including 20 from Latin America. Melina Masnatta, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Chicas en Tecnología, was part of that process with the plan created during 2020 by Chicas en Tecnología to reach more young people in the region, digitize the programs of the organization and create new educational proposals. After being selected by an international jury, Melina participated in a two-month mentoring process in which she received training and accompaniment for develop funding strategies that will enable the organization to continue to create innovative, region-wide solutions to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic. Finally, the social entrepreneur Melina Masnatta was selected as 1 of the 5 persons, and the only one in Latin America, to reach the final stage and win the recognition provided by Beiersdorf, which consists of financial support to enhance the solutions generated during 2020.

Beiersdorf supports with funds to social entrepreneurs in Africa, Asia and South America who are creating concrete solutions with a systemic scope through “Changemakers United”, an initiative of the international organization Ashoka. The global financial support program launched by Beiersdorf at the beginning of 2020 aims to to cope with the immediate but also long-term socio-economic consequences of the pandemic. As part of this initiative, 80 social entrepreneurs from the Ashoka network in Africa, Asia and South America received support from the company. In addition, Beiersdorf selected 5 members of the “Changemakers United” initiative who work for improving the lives and opportunities of adolescent girls and women with the objective of giving them special recognition for their vision, innovation and strategy to respond to the current situation. The chosen individuals were highlighted for the development of innovative solutions and the creation of local impact.
